Loose Gemstones from Myanmar

This are either semi precious stones such as spinel garnet, peridot, amethyst, aquamarine, citrine, quartz, tourmaline, topaz and more crystals in the whole color spectrum.

Or precious stones such as ruby, sapphire,

jade and pearls, the stores have an abundance of precious stones and exotic jewelry on display plus many pure gold items

since the country has reasonable resources of gold. Also diamonds are mined, although not on a scale as in South Africa the are several mines with good output. In general, the country is amazingly rich in gemstones, minerals and valuable materials such as gold and silver, the yellow metal is usually found in the rivers north of Mandalay.

Many large portions of the Irrawaddy riverbanks are occupied with treasure hunter and after it's washed out it is a substantial amount. Many of that is hammered into gold leaves in Mandalay and sold to decorated Buddha statues.

Gems at Bogyoke Market

with all types and colors. Browsing through halls and shops of the bazaar is like a peep into a treasure trove.

sapphire cabochon jade cabochon

Surrounded by gold jewelry, decorative silver items, wood carvings, bronze and brass statues and more oriental art. This place is still in the old tradition of a genuine old fashioned oriental bazaar.

It is often amazing how big this gems are just check the pictures below and cabochons are even quite low priced but good quality gemstones, gold and jade can quickly reach astronomical numbers.

A real price explosion has happen in 2012 it seems as if everyone want to get the money in they missed in the last decades. Now the tourists are here and they are considered, as in Thailand, as millionaires. This is a real strange attitude in South East Asia that they always consider the visitors as millionaires which naturally they are not.
