Monastery of jumping cats

About two decades ago one of the monks in the monastery

had a great idea, he started to train some cats to jump through a hoop just as they do with the tigers in the circus or at the Jurong Bird Park in Singapore with the birds.

Maybe he just was bored or rather he had another target in mind since an attraction like this works like a magnet for visitors once the news are spread. He was right after 2 years a tour on the lake without visiting the monastery is almost unthinkable. Every time he managed to maneuver the small animal through the hoop a small donation is willingly passed by the audience.

As a additional incentive the monastery offers a place to stay for a few days

and explore the monastic life, which is rather boring but for some tourist tired of the over civilization at home just the right stuff to get another kick since this is a rather unique experience. The cats have names such as Leonardo, Marylyn, John Wayne and other, it clearly shows that a Myanmar monk can be a marketing giant.

This is the Phe Chaung monastery,

it is almost 200 years old and tries new ways to get money into the system since also monks must live.
