Myanmar Mother of Pearl

Mother of Pearl also known as nacre is the layer of material which makes the shell lining of many mollusks, this is aragonite combined with other material a very strong and flexible material. When parts of other materials somehow penetrate into the shell and come in contact with a bump is formed around and this bump grows, the result of this becomes a pearl. As with other materials which have some value people fake it and this is very popular in the middle east. Today most material comes from farmed sea pearl oyster and freshwater pearl mussels plus abalone. Since this is done in many parts of the world the material is widely available.
