Myanmar Himalaya Travel & Trekking

Adventure trips into the mountains of Kachin State which are the extensions of the Tibetan Himalayas. This is raw nature, since the British left no foreigners came in here. If you have been "everywhere" that's the place to go, because that's really new and ideal for trekking adventure. The highest mountain is SE Asia is here, that's Mt. Hkakabo Razi (picture below), with 5,900 meters. Conquered first time in 1997 by a group of Japanese and Myanmar mountain climbers

Putao is the nearest town with an airport

and there are daily flights from Yangon to this remote area. Several travel agents offer package tour programs which are the most appropriate means of travel here because there is no hotel etc. it needs to be organized first. Mountain ranges with plenty of snow and glaciers all year round, a pristine environment. Fruits and vegetables grown here are rice, maize, millet  cereal crops, cucumbers, gourds and marrows.

There are pine, hemlock and fir plus some larch. From around 2,700 meters to 3,700 meters its conifer forests. Also hardwood such as oak, birch, maple, walnut, chestnut is around plus rhododendron and others.

Unfortunately this is only at areas not accessible by road. Where there is a road the trees are cut by Chinese and local poachers.

at lower altitude with great nature, rivers and waterfalls are available in Thailand close to the Thailand Myanmar border at Umphang and  Mae Sot in Thailand.

Kachin people catch fish in conical fish traps, nets and harpoons. They eat  barking deer, pheasants, gooral, serow,  and monkeys. Sometimes even snails, frogs, lizards, wasp grubs and snakes. In straw-roofed houses various ethnicities are living such as Lisu, Shan, Rawan and Kachin are living in the region.

Since the mountains have a height of up to around 6000 meters snow and glaciers are eternal and the area is really pristine with plenty of wilderness, bamboo jungle and coniferous forests in the upper regions, actually at the first view it looks like being in the Alps.

Glaciers, snow, lakes, and wild rivers, places to take a deep breath, this is for adventure lovers, also elephant rides available. The snow is covering the peaks, this is Kachin State, valleys and steep ravines. Most tours start at Putao the center of the very north, under British colonial times this was Fort Hertz, a garrison town or rather outpost. From here several English botanists started their journey into a not explored world, they and hunters were the only in the forests, actually not much has changed until recent days, the main problem currently are local and Chinese poachers and logging companies who destroy the forest.

There are plenty of rivers with cold and clear waters surrounded by dense oak woods, pine, and Rhododendrons this is primarily where the loggers cant access because of the topology.  Aside of the poaching and logging problems the forests still have wild life, exotic birds and lots of beautiful flowers, among them rare orchid species, but also they are the target of poachers, its wilderness by any means, the nature and the people.

Since there are no accommodations, everything is based on camping and usually started with a jeep tour, others activities such as river rafting, kayaking etc. are only developed minimal although there are great streams which would perfectly fit, climbing tours can also be done.
