Sandalwood Carvings, Buddha Sculptures, Figurines and Statues

Sandalwood is synonymous with great carvings and a great scent. The tree is used for thousands of years as a source for an exotic fragrance and as a raw material for expensive artworks, usually beautiful Buddha Statues and other religious items are made from.

The other use is in perfumes and cosmetics by extracting aromatic oils from the roots, some also use this for herbal remedies.

As raw material for ornamental items this is in high demand because it is very suitable for carvings and has a great aroma which enriches ever place an item made from is placed somewhere.

It’s not so easy to turn a blocks of wood into a beautiful artwork, on top of it the material is quite expensive that won’t allow much mistakes. Karnataka, in south India, is famous for world for its sandalwood creations.

But India is not the sole producer, there is also substantial production in Myanmar and Thailand, the little problem is, it take about 30 years until a good piece can be harvested. This is somehow similar to teak.

The core wood is used to make artwork and the bark is grinded into powder and is used to make incense sticks. Aromatic oils are mainly extracted from the roots and grind powder has a cosmetic use.
