4 - Day Rakhine Adventure
Yangon - Sittwe (-/L/D)
DAY 1: Pick-up at hotel in YANGON and transfer to airport for domestic flight to SITTWE, the capital and main port of RAKHINE (Arakan) State. On arrival, transfer to hotel. After lunch, proceed for sightseeing in Sittwe. See PAYAGYI TEMPLE, the CULTURAL MUSEUM, MOSQUES, the WATERFRONT and residential areas. Dinner at a simple local restaurant and overnight in Sittwe.
Sittwe - Mrauk Oo (B/L/D)
DAY 2: Transfer to river jetty and board a simple boat (no proper toilet facilities) for the 70-km journey (6-8 hours) upriver to the ancient former capital of MRAUK OO. Picnic lunch will be taken during the boat journey. On arrival, transfer to hotel. Proceed for sightseeing of the nearby ancient city with remains of walls, gateways and unusual 16th century temples such as the maze-like "SHITTAUNG" shrine, which boasts 80,000 images. Dinner at a simple local restaurant and overnight in Mrauk Oo.
Mrauk Oo - Vesali - Sittwe (B/L/D)
DAY 3: Make an early start for a drive on open truck to WETHALI (Vesali). The 10-km distance will take about 1 hour. Sightseeing includes remains of WALLS, DEFENSIVE MOAT SYSTEM, CENTRAL PALACE, and a 5-meter high seated BUDDHA. Return to Mrauk Oo and visit to ANDAW PAYA sanctuary, YADANA PON PAYA STUPA and DUKKANTHEIN MONASTERY. Early afternoon, join boat for return journey down the river to SITTWE with picnic lunch on board. Dinner at a simple local restaurant and overnight in Sittwe.
Sittwe - Yangon (B/L/-)
DAY 4: Visit Sittwe's main market, where fishermen, town and rural people come to buy and sell fish and general supplies. Transfer to Sittwe Airport for return flight to YANGON. Upon arrival in Yangon, transfer to hotel.
Important note: Rakhine State is still undeveloped for most aspects of tourism. This is essentially an adventure tour. Travel agent will endeavor to obtain best available accommodation, transport and facilities for guests, but would ask for their understanding for any practical aspects that do not come up to expectations, and for delays or changes in the itinerary. Travel in this region is not recommended during the monsoon season (June - September), as heavy floods are common.
